US President Joe Biden faced an embarrassing moment as he tripped and fell while distributing diplomas at the graduation ceremony of the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. Despite being the oldest serving president at 80, Mr. Biden managed to regain his footing with the assistance of Air Force officials and returned to his seat unaided.

During the ceremony, which lasted approximately one and a half hours, the president stood to greet each of the 921 graduating cadets. However, a mishap occurred when he stumbled upon a black sandbag placed on the stage. Footage of the incident captured Mr. Biden pointing at the sandbag as he recovered.

Fortunately, the president did not sustain any visible injuries and was seen jogging back to his motorcade after the ceremony concluded. The White House communications director, Ben LaBolt, took to Twitter to assure the public that Mr. Biden was “fine.” Similarly, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the president was “totally fine” and exhibited a “big smile” while boarding the plane.

Nonetheless, this incident has further fueled concerns about Mr. Biden’s age and his ability to serve a second term as president. Recent polls indicate that a majority of US voters express worries about his advanced age, considering that he would be 82 at the beginning of a potential second term.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner for the 2024 White House election, commented on the incident during a campaign event in Iowa. Mr. Trump, who has frequently mocked Mr. Biden’s age, expressed his hope that the president had not been injured. He added that the incident was not inspiring, drawing attention to his own cautious descent from a stage in 2020, which had also garnered media coverage.

It is worth noting that Mr. Biden has experienced previous stumbles, including falling from his bicycle and tripping on the stairs of Air Force One. Such incidents only serve to heighten concerns about his fitness for office. However, the White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, stated during Mr. Biden’s most recent physical examination in February that the president remained fully capable of carrying out his duties without any limitations.

In conclusion, President Joe Biden’s stumble at the Colorado event has drawn attention to concerns over his age and physical capabilities. As the nation’s oldest serving president, Mr. Biden’s mishap during the graduation ceremony adds to existing worries among US voters about his ability to run for a second term.
